How to protect your netbook from physical damage
Minding the external chassis of my Samsung NC20 is as important as optimizing the performance of Windows loaded in it. Since the mobility aspect has increased the reliability on my notebook manifold, I need to ensure that my ultra mobile device is handled carefully to avoid frequent repairs. I religiously follow some useful tips to ensure the longevity of my precious notebook. Let’s check these out.
Display screen
It is the most important part of your netbook, which you cannot afford to overlook. Since netbooks come with LCD screen, it demands an extra bit of attention. Avoid touching or pressing the netbook screen with your fingers. Sometimes too much pressing might lead to permanent smudge, which is irreparable or irreplaceable on netbooks. You should remember that manufacturers do not provide warranty on such damages.

If you want to clean dust or finger marks on your LCD screen, use a fine piece of cloth to wipe the LCD glass gently. While closing your netbook, ensure you do not leave small objects on the keyboard, which might scratch the LCD screen. To be on the safer side, always place a small piece of cloth or air bubble film on the keyboard. However, you should ensure that the cloth or air bubble film on the keyboard does not affect the hinge operation of your netbook.

AC adaptors
AC adaptors are like oxygen cylinders. Since AC adaptors are your netbook’s power source, they demand the same attention as your netbook. If you wrap the power cords around the AC adaptor, it might create excessive stress and may result in premature failure. You should never operate the AC adaptor with its power cord wrapped around the body. Make sure you do not crimp the cables of the AC adaptor while you are placing it inside your netbook bag. The best practice is to loop the cable of your AC adaptor loosely around your finger and place it inside your netbook bag.

Cables and USB devices
When you are placing your netbook inside your bag, always remember to remove all cables and USB devices from the ports of your netbook. Failing to remove the external cables and USB devices can inflict damage to the ports of your netbook. You might have to burn a hole in your pocket to repair these ports.

Hard disc drive
If your netbook comes in direct touch with a vibrating device or gets an unexpected shock, it may permanently damage your hard disc resulting permanent data loss. You should be careful enough to ensure your netbook is not subject to sudden shock even if it is inside your netbook bag. It is near impossible to change the hard disc drive of you netbook in the event of permanent damage. The best practice is to back up the data of your hard drive simultaneously in cloud based applications like Mozy or Windows Sky drive.

External factors
Although netbook gives you the freedom of portability, you should be careful when you place your netbook on different surfaces. It is recommended not to place your netbook in dusty places as dust can clog the air flow in your netbook and may over heat its chassis.
The above mentioned techniques sound simple, but are crucial in increasing the longevity of your netbook. Yes, you can also read Waterproof your netbook to save your netbook from moisture related concerns.
