Waterproof your netbook
Written by Roshi
Monsoon is always torrential in India, but this year we witnessed the heaviest rainfall in the country. In this weekend, I am planning to go to Kerala, a state in South India, famous for its backwaters, beaches and rain forests. However, weather forecasts indicate the possibility of a rainstorm in Kerala, later this week. I am now worried about my travel mate, Samsung NC20. However, my geek friend gave me some tips to protect my notebook from water in this soggy season. Check out here!
You can extend the lifeline of your precious netbook by following these simple guidelines.
Keep them indoors

Don't tell me I didn't warn you! If it is raining, avoid taking your laptop out for a spin. However, if it is really necessary to take netbook with you, be careful. Never forget to carry your netbook bag or sleeve with you. If your netbook has a moisture proof plastic covering, which generally comes with new netbooks, then let the netbook be covered in it even inside the netbook bag. Don’t forget to wipe your netbook dry, before putting it into the case to avoid any damage from humidity.
Choose the right netbook bag

The most important savior of your netbook is its carry bag; therefore, you should choose it carefully. Most of us use our laptop bags as accessories, and give preference to lighter or attractive looking bags. However, the first preference should be given to moisture-resistant, rugged and waterproof bags. These bags can be expensive, but they ensure complete protection for your netbook. You can go for a bag with a metal case on the outside and foam on the inside. There are bags available with air cushions and nylon coverings. If you want to go for a regular foam bag, you have dozens of choices available in the market, which come with water resistant polyurethane and neoprene coverings.
Neoprene sleeves

Laptop bags and netbooks bags are different, so never use the life-sized bags for your tiny netbooks. Most of the netbooks come with a netbook sleeve. However, if you don’t have one, go for a soft, durable and water resistant sleeve. You can also choose a sleeve with neoprene coating or a cushion to protect your netbook from water. Sleeves have spaces in joints and these are places where water can seep in and damage your netbook. So choose a sleeve for your netbook model and make sure it is waterproof and free of spaces at the joints.

Netbook skins
Netbook skins are mostly used to enhance the appearance of your netbook by giving it a new unique fresh look. However, you can also use a water-resistant skin to waterproof your netbook. You can also get protective skins for the keyboard and mouse pad of your netbook. They actually protect your netbook exteriors from getting damaged from sudden water splashes or coffee spills at your home or office.

Insurance
Most of the netbooks are quite cheap, but if your netbook is really expensive and you travel quite regularly, then you can insure it to guarantee your peace of mind while travelling. Netbook insurance covers water damage and are usually cost effective too.
Netbooks and water can never get along, so you need to be really careful while taking your netbook out. The steps above can definitely save your netbook from water unless you encounter a flood or a tsunami.
