VIDEO: Introducing the Wondermedia PRIZM platform
Written by Stewart
Here's a video that takes a look at the new PRIZM platform from Wondermedia. Launched earlier last week, the Wondermedia PRIZM platform is a leading-edge System-on-Chip technology that will soon be powering a number of devices including a new category of mobile PC; the smartbook.
System-on-Chip technology is a fancy way of saying that the PRIZM platform is essentially a single, highly integrated component that is packed with all the elements you need to work a computer. In the case of PRIZM, we have an ARM processor coupled with a chipset that boasts a video decoder, graphics engine, storage support and networking etc. This means that you have all the parts that make up the brain of your computer, rolled into one tiny chip; hence the term 'system-on-chip' (SoC).

Smartbooks powered by this kind of technology are fast becoming the 'next big thing', luring consumers with their combination of lightweight ultra-mobility and affordable price points. The PRIZM platform from Wondermedia, although fairly new to most of us, is actually quite a mature platform with a number of working designs on show during Computex this year. These devices all share a common trait; the ability to take advantage of the Internet cloud, and this includes not only smartbooks, but also smartframes, smartplayers and more.
Here is a video of Timothy at the VIA booth during Computex 2009, showing some examples of the PRIZM platform in action.
